After being returned to the civilized world, Roz is sent to work on a farm, where she is expected to perform tasks and help the struggling family. Although she gradually develops a connection with the people and animals around her, Roz continues to long for her adopted son Brightbill and the wild island she considers home. Her journey becomes an adventure about freedom, friendship, family, survival, and discovering where she truly belongs, while exploring the relationship between technology and nature.
